Craft Night
On Saturday evening Oct. 17th our sisters, Shilo and Melodee brought crafts for Craft Night at the Homeless Overflow. These crafty cat kits were so cute that the kids jumped right into making them. The next morning many of them were displayed upon the tops of their beds.

September Was A Blessing!

SSS had a great time serving the homeless in September. Besides visiting and encouraging, a few of the things we did were, give clothing, throw a birthday party, serve veggies and dip, and serve cheese and crackers. We met a lot of interesting people, including a few new faces to the homeless community.
During this month of October we'll have several events happening. Check our calendar below for dates! Contact us if you would like to become a Sister!

God's Desire, Not Our's...
A man's heart plans his way,But the LORD directs his steps. Prov. 16:9
So, what was SSS to do?...
Quickly contact some of the local outreach services. After a few phone calls, it was apparent that God chose Santa Maria's Good Samaritan Shelter for the blessing. They were thrilled to have us donate the items and we were thrilled that they were blessed! Upon arrival at the shelter, Kristina gave us a tour of their wonderful facilities.
Thanks to anonymous donators, the families of the Children's Ministry at First Baptist Church SLO and to all the people who continually work so hard for our local shelters and those in desperate need.

Sisters Serving Sisters, in cooperation with a local church, purchased school supplies and backpacks for local homeless children returning to school for another year.

Cheese, Crackers and more

Last Wednesday was Cheese and Crackers Night at the Homeless Overflow. Every night we visit is unique and full of fun and unexpected blessings. It's truly enjoyable to get to know a little about the overnight hosts and meet new clients every week. Please keep the homeless in your prayers.
This week's photo story...

Birthday Bash Blast!

What a blast we had last Wednesday at our August Birthday Bash at the Overflow!
Cake, ice cream, trick candles, balloons, cards, gifts, fun and excitement...it was all there. It was such an exciting night as we celebrated all the August birthdays of children and the adult clients. One highlight of the night was watching as everyone tried in unison to blow out the trick candles. It was so fun to watch as one child in particular was laughing so hard when he blew out his candle and it sparked a new flame shortly thereafter. The evening went so well that at the end of the night one of the employees for the shelter said that she had never seen everyone so happy at once as they were at the party!
We take joy in serving and blessing others, we ourselves are so blessed that God has enabled and equipped each one of us to serve and He has given us the means to bless those who might be unable to provide a party for their loved ones. We pray that those who don't know Christ may come to know him as we serve in love.

What a Wonderful Breakfast It Was!

In total we had 34 volunteers from the First Baptist Church in SLO who served along side us, including people who donated food, supplies, use of griddles and turkey roasters, and people who prepped and served. We even had 3 talented young men come and play elegant and beautiful music as the clients dined.
Things went so well and everyone had a great time!
Would you consider joining us as we serve weekly by visiting and encouraging our local homeless women and children?

I Am Your Sister!

What would you be feeling?
How could I care for you?
What could I give you?
How should I love you?
How can I meet your need?
'Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink? Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing? When did we ever see you sick or in prison , and visit you?' And the King will tell them, 'I assure you, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!'
Matt 25:37-40
...'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these."
Mark 12:30
For whoever does the will of God is My brother and My sister and mother.
Mark 3:35
I am YOUR sister!

What Serving our Local Homeless Means
Active concern for the hungry and homeless validates the reality of God in our lives. Men will glorify our Father in heaven not because of what we say only, but because our lights are shining and they have seen our good deeds (Matthew 5:16).
Concern for the hungry helps us feel the spiritual lostness of men. For if our hearts break for their temporal physical suffering, will not our theology drive us to see the inconsistency of not being broken-hearted because of their spiritual hopelessness.
Concern for the hungry creates witness opportunities. If Christian ethics means for us primarily avoiding bad behavior and staying home in our comfortable houses, we will meet very few non-Christians, and when we do, our words of witness will be weak because they are backed up with no labor of love. But if our love of Christ and his for us drives us into action to meet the needs of refugees and the world's hungry, then we will cross paths with unbelievers and our witness will have great power because it will be certified by active love.
So never play off evangelism against other biblically mandated acts of love, namely, feeding the poor and doing good to all (Galatians 6:10).
Consider what God's word says to us...
Luke 3:11, "He who has two coats, let him share with him who has none; and he who has food let him do likewise."
Psalm 41:1, "Blessed is he who considers the poor!"
Proverbs 14:31, "He who oppresses a poor man insults his maker, but he who is kind to the needy honors him."
Proverbs 21:13, "'He who closes his ear to the cry of the poor will himself cry out and not be heard."
Proverbs 28:27, "He who gives to the poor will not want, but he who hides his eyes will get many a curse."
Isaiah 58:10, "If you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as the noonday. And the Lord will guide you continually, and satisfy your desire with good things, and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water whose waters fail not."

Ice Cream Social!

It's an ice cream social!
Wednesday evening at the homeless overflow was a blast. We brought along goodies to create some yummy sundaes for everyone. Mint chocolate, strawberry and vanilla flavored ice cream, sprinkles, walnuts, whipped cream and chocolate syrup, Oreo and mint chocolate grasshopper cookies topped some of the creations. Everyone, young and old enjoyed the delicious treat.
The atmosphere was buzzing with the sounds of children playing, running and making crafts. We met quite a few young and old volunteers, all with cute personalities.
The conversations with the women are becoming more and more fullfilling with each visit we make. I'm amazed that the homeless women call us by name. What a joy. We are really being blessed by the love that WE are receiving from everyone we encounter.
Please consider becoming a part of this ministry. Contact us today. God has big plans for all of us!

Wednesday Evening Visit with The Homeless
This evening,
Sisters Serving Sisters visited with the homeless at the Overflow Shelter. We had the privilege of meeting Ro and Nancy, two lovely ladies who were volunteering along side of us. We started the night off by crafting with the children while they made Mother's Day Cards for their moms. Not only did the children make cards, but so did some of the adults. It was a joy to see them jump right in a display their crafty side. As a thank you, one shelter client made a card for Nancy (photo of the green card). Also, one of the children's mother made a card for her 11 year old daughter, the mother proclaimed, "Because she deserves something nice, she is special too." (photo of the heart card)

You can see Ro in the photo to the right as she plays with a little baby. So then, after holding babies, sweeping and vacuuming up all the glitter that spread all over the tables and floor from the cards, we enjoyed watching and hearing little boys encircling the room by push around their toy trucks with such energy and playfulness (photo). It was a great night! We pray that we were able to bless homeless, just as we were blessed to have served. Ladies, we hope that you will be able to join us this Mother's Day morning as we go to prepare a Mother's Day breakfast for the homeless. You can contact us at our email address which is located at the bottom of our blog.
Praise Report: Our previous SSS post spoke about a family with 5 children. Well, tomorrow they will be moving into their own place! Now isn't that a huge blessing?

Cardmaking and a Visit at The Overflow

Last night Sisters Serving Sisters headed out to the Homeless Overflow where we visited and loved 38 people...
it was a full house! We enjoyed watching the children create such cute and colorful greeting cards for their friends and family.
Clothing was given (and immediately worn), 5 Bibles were taken, we were blessed to visit and know some of the women a little more deeply.
During this visit we met one beautiful mother who had 5 children, including one who was nursing. They were all so adorable and so well behaved.
Unfortunately for us, we were not able to meet the father of the family because he was working late.
Thank God for his job and his commitment to support his family!
Ladies, please come join us soon by bringing blessings and encouragement to the homeless women and children of San Luis Obispo County.
Check out our calendar, shoot us an email and let us know you are interested in looking into being a part of this wonderful ministry!
We look forward to meeting you and blessing you too.
