An Overflow Christmas Party
Our SSS Christmas party for the homeless was fantastic! Everyone was snacking on delicious Christmas treats, drinking egg nog and hot apple cider while listening to Christmas tunes. Children completed a nativity scene craft and participated in a tree decorating contest.
Here are the four mini trees that the children decorated.

Gift bags and gift cards were passed out to all the adults!

Christmas is Coming! Thank you all.
The Love of Christmas is coming to the Homeless!
The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 1 John 4:8-10
What a wonderful way to celebrate the birth of our Savior Jesus, the Christ.
This past month has been a busy one for all the Sisters. It takes teamwork to provide gifts for nearly 150 people! With the help of many other caring individuals, we planned, organized, decorated gift bags, shopped, wrapped, filled gift bags, transported gifts to storage and much more in preparation for this coming Wednesday evening and Christmas morning when we and a few others will be delivering Christmas gifts to some who don't have that much.
Thanks to four local churches, Church of Christ, First Baptist Church SLO, Grace Church SLO and Zion Lutheran Church who participated in bringing the joy of Christmas to our local homeless shelter. Thanks to all the individuals at each church who took a gift tag and fulfilled the request for a gift. Thanks to our friends and church representatives, Ben, Dave, Dorie, and Grace! We wish you a merry Christmas and thank God for serving with you in this event. Special thanks to Grace Church which provided a room to gather in and wrap the gifts (it took about 6 hours altogether), and to First Baptist Church which provided storage.
This Wednesday evening Sisters Serving Sisters will be throwing a Christmas party at the overflow shelter!
Treats will be served, games will be played, Christ centered Christmas music will be listened to, crafts will be made, decorating of the 4 mini Christmas trees from the 4 churches will be done by the children of the overflow shelter, children will perform a Christmas skit and we'll be showing Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer. We have a lot love and joy to spread come Wednesday.
Early on Christmas morning we'll be taking the rest of the gifts and gift bags to the local homeless shelter where we will be serving egg nog, hot chocolate, coffee and treats.
Merry Christmas to each one of you. We wish you all the knowledge, security and joy of His presence this Christmas.

Christmas for the Shelter Preparation

Last week SSS got together to decorate giftbags for Christmas for the Shelter and our Secret Angel event. Four local churches, Church of Christ, Grace Church, First Baptist Church SLO and Zion Lutheran will be partnering with us to provide gifts for the Adults and Children of our local homeless shelter.
Altogether we decorated about 250 giftbags with stickers, ink stamps and colored markers. We also placed the wish lists on the back of each ornament that will go on to each Christmas tree located at one of the above churches.
We had a good time.

A Prayer of Thanksgiving

Thank you Lord God for the multitude of blessings that you have bestowed upon us over these past 9 months; for the women who have come together as Sisters in Christ to serve as an offering of love. We give thanks for your direction and for all of the open doors that you have provided; for the faith you give us, for equipping us for your work, for our families who have supported the giving of our time and resources; for the support of our local Pastors, Churches, the Interfaith Coalition, the Prado Day Center and the Maxine Lewis Memorial Shelter Staff who have allowed us to serve at their facilities. Thank you for hearing the prayers that we have lifted up to you; for the donations that have allowed us to provide these women with bibles, socks, underwear, feminine hygiene and other items. Thank you for the smiles hugs and love that we receive from these women in return for serving you Lord God. Thank you for the freedom to celebrate the birth of your son and for the Churches who have agreed to partner with us in providing Christmas for the Shelter. We thank you Lord and ask that you will continue to bless us, protect us and lead us to do your will. We ask these things in the name of your beautiful son, Jesus. Amen

What a Man....Night.

In honor of the husbands and fathers at our local homeless shelter, SSS held a "Man Night".
The night began with a dinner of hamburgers and baked beans for all. Then the men were secluded in their own private movie room where they watched Saving Private Ryan, which they all chose and agreed upon a couple of days prior to that night. The guys stayed up unusually late to watch the movie and snack on special man treats while everyone else was treated to rounds of bingo with prizes awarded to winners. Later delicious nachos were served.
So much fun and laughter was had by the volunteers and the homeless while playing bingo and the men were so thankful to have a special time of their own!

Craft Night
On Saturday evening Oct. 17th our sisters, Shilo and Melodee brought crafts for Craft Night at the Homeless Overflow. These crafty cat kits were so cute that the kids jumped right into making them. The next morning many of them were displayed upon the tops of their beds.

September Was A Blessing!

SSS had a great time serving the homeless in September. Besides visiting and encouraging, a few of the things we did were, give clothing, throw a birthday party, serve veggies and dip, and serve cheese and crackers. We met a lot of interesting people, including a few new faces to the homeless community.
During this month of October we'll have several events happening. Check our calendar below for dates! Contact us if you would like to become a Sister!
