SSS Independence Day BBQ/Picnic With Our Homeless Friends

It was a beautiful and sunny day as SSS celebrated Independence Day at a local park with a BBQ/Picnic on the 3rd of July. We enjoyed all the food and fun.  We served BBQ hamburgers, hot dogs, beans, potato salad, green salad, squash, chips, drinks and decorated cupcakes!
Our sister, Melodee provided the craft for the kids (decorated bandanas). Volunteers played soccer, tossed water balloons and played with the children.

But when you give a feast, invite the poor , the maimed, the lame, the blind. And you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you; for you shall be repaid at the resurrection of the just."

Luke 14:13-14

Preparing to Bless Their Mothers at The Overflow

Our Sister, Melodee brought Mother's Day crafts to the kids of the Homeless Overflow.  The Children crafted sparkling cloth gift bags and wrote cards for their moms.  The children didn't know that they were going to be shopping and filling their bags with gifts for their moms.  The children were excited to earn reward tokens to "purchase" their gifts from a boxed filled with assorted trinkets and useful items that women would love to have.

Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, But a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised.
Prov 31:30

It's The Simple Things In Life

Giving the Homeless underwear may seem like a simple little act, but it's huge to those we have served. They love it!

He Restores My Soul...

Here's a photo of Gail, who has just had a lot of fun playing with the kids of the Homeless Overflow. Giving a few parents a much needed break is one of many gifts that Gail certainly gives well! We thank God for Gail and all that she does to encourage and minister to our local homeless. God bless her.

We tell that He is Risen!

Matt 28:5-8

But the angel answered and said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for He is risen , as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead, and indeed He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him. Behold, I have told you."
So they went out quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to bring His disciples word.

Saturday morning, the day before Easter Sunday, SSS served breakfast to our friends at the Homeless Overflow. Fruit, Eggs, Bacon and Pancakes we on the menu! After breakfast we passed out gifts of candied filled eggs for the children, gift bags for the women and gift bags for the men.
When all that was finished, the Sisters held their Saturday morning bible study.  The topic of the study was "The God Who Helps", which spoke to each one of us.
We thank our Savior for allowing us to be used by Him in blessing the homeless and encouraging the homeless believers who attend our study.  Please pray for them.

A Lovely Retreat it Was

We had a great time at our SSS Women's Bible Study Retreat for the Homeless. We spent time relaxing together and getting to know the Lord and each other better. Our Saturday morning Bible study was particularly rewarding as we studied how deep our Father's love is for us.

For the LORD is good and his love endures forever;

Through the Eyes of a Child

We gave an 8 year old a camera, and here's what he took during our visit Wednesday night.

Luke 18:16-17 "Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God. Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it."

An Overflow Christmas Party

Our SSS Christmas party for the homeless was fantastic! Everyone was snacking on delicious Christmas treats, drinking egg nog and hot apple cider while listening to Christmas tunes. Children completed a nativity scene craft and participated in a tree decorating contest.
Here are the four mini trees that the children decorated.

Gift bags and gift cards were passed out to all the adults!
A little boys wears his gloves on his feet.
A boy holds his remote control car on his lap.
A little girl finds Frosty in her Christmas stocking.
Julie checks her list. She checks it twice...Nope, there's not one naughty person on the list.
Children wait to look in their stockings.
Julie and Melodee read the tags and pass out gifts to all the children who are seated with their parents (out of frame to the left).
Children play a game in anticipation of the gift giving.

Exerting some nervous energy.
A woman completes her nativity scene.

Christmas is Coming! Thank you all.

The Love of Christmas is coming to the Homeless!

The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 1 John 4:8-10

What a wonderful way to celebrate the birth of our Savior Jesus, the Christ.

This past month has been a busy one for all the Sisters. It takes teamwork to provide gifts for nearly 150 people! With the help of many other caring individuals, we planned, organized, decorated gift bags, shopped, wrapped, filled gift bags, transported gifts to storage and much more in preparation for this coming Wednesday evening and Christmas morning when we and a few others will be delivering Christmas gifts to some who don't have that much.

Thanks to four local churches, Church of Christ, First Baptist Church SLO, Grace Church SLO and Zion Lutheran Church who participated in bringing the joy of Christmas to our local homeless shelter. Thanks to all the individuals at each church who took a gift tag and fulfilled the request for a gift. Thanks to our friends and church representatives, Ben, Dave, Dorie, and Grace! We wish you a merry Christmas and thank God for serving with you in this event. Special thanks to Grace Church which provided a room to gather in and wrap the gifts (it took about 6 hours altogether), and to First Baptist Church which provided storage.

This Wednesday evening Sisters Serving Sisters will be throwing a Christmas party at the overflow shelter!
Treats will be served, games will be played, Christ centered Christmas music will be listened to, crafts will be made, decorating of the 4 mini Christmas trees from the 4 churches will be done by the children of the overflow shelter, children will perform a Christmas skit and we'll be showing Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer. We have a lot love and joy to spread come Wednesday.

Early on Christmas morning we'll be taking the rest of the gifts and gift bags to the local homeless shelter where we will be serving egg nog, hot chocolate, coffee and treats.

Merry Christmas to each one of you. We wish you all the knowledge, security and joy of His presence this Christmas.
